Technology Over My Lifetime

So for today's blog entry instead of talking about my day or my hobbies and such I thought I'd pick a different topic. I was thinking about that social networking movie.

I wasn't just mulling over in my mind about how we've used technology to distance ourselves from others, but more how much technology has changed in just my life time for example. I'm not just talking about cell phones and computers because everyone around my age would point to those as the most major technology changes in the past twenty to thirty years. I'm talking about changes in transportation, and medicine too. All these facits of our technology have grown and changed. This has certianly distanced the lay person from a clear understanding of these devices functions, operations and matinance.

What I'm really trying to say is that I'm really getting frustrated at having to cycle my modem to get my internet to work. Until next time - Jeremy

  1. Thanks for the post! I can appreciate your POV here with my particular position. I meet a lot of people face to face but I have far more communication with people online. It's nice to see that you are very thoughtful about technology beyond just entertainment. I think that a lot of young people, my daughter included, consider technology a toy and don't apply it as much to learning and critical thinking as they might otherwise do.

  2. Jeremy,

I don't know what "cycle my modem" means, but I agree with you that nearly every industry we interact with in our daily lives is being driven by technology. I know a guy who was in the newspaper industry for 20+ years who became frustrated in the changes tied to technology in his work as a primary editor of the Oregonian. So, he got his teaching certificate and now teaches High School English! We either embrace it, or we figure out how to live in the world and accept technology on our own terms!

    Love your blog page!!
