Very Recently I...

Very recently I have begun to over-come some of my aversion to some specific forms of technology. I have made a linked-in account, I have made a Google site, and I've been researching web page design. Initially, last week or the week before I was looking into html coding, but I think that just some basic web page design concepts are more basic, and preliminary. I think that this type of research is more fitting for where I'm at right now. This way also I can form the ideas of where and how I'd like my site to develop prior to it's full development. I'm again somewhat proud of myself for making more use of my online resources for social networking, I hope what I've recently learned will be of use to me professionally.

Some Work I'v done recently That I'm Rather Proud Of

Recently I've made a couple of Storybirds, that I'm rather proud of. I'll make a hot link in a bit for that. Additionally, I've started up a google page, the idea or rational behind this was to practice web-mastering and practice web page design before I took on a more serious project. I'll add a link for my web page shortly it's called the cloud bank, a webpage about climbing and books. I bit like my initial blog concept before I went of on several tangents.

Technology and its Risks

From my reading I've seen this phrase the "benefits and risks of applied technology." I can somewhat see the train of thought that the author went through in writing this phrase but "risk" is just not the best word to describe the situation. The appropriate use of technology is certainly a tenuous precipice its easy to completely abandon the use of technologies in presentation or at work or otherwise. And we often see work places were this mentality has taken hold at my own work our ordering and inventory software is still based in Basic programing language. The irony is that our cloud net works have to use a shell or sumsuch to run these programs when we could instead run programs that more frequently update in a java or html based languge on an intranet framwork much more easily and efficently.
However, the draw back is as always the higher the level of technology the less likely one is to recieve expediant help with setting up the projector for example vs asking around for chalk or a dry erase marker. The cost vs benefit needs to find a balance, but when customers expect a quality experience accurate information about where a product can be found can mean the differance between a customer buying a product from you and one buying a product on line and this is true more often that not.

Working with html code

Firstly, I've been looking at making a website so I looked at an article on about.com Here's the link, It's titled Getting started making your own website.

I've been browsing for html code videos to see how the coding is done in a video format. This is one that I found useful for showing the open and close of text entries.

The Steady March of The Technology Drum

Emails about homework, or jobs or bills , Cellphone calls from your work, text messages and phone calls while your driving, other people driving while texting. These are just a short list of the frustrations and dangers of emails and cellphones. While these technologies have made our lives more difficult by giving us more things to worry about, they have also given us the ability to contact people where ever they are. This can be again rather invasive it invades our privacy, I've had to tell people at work on a number of occasions that I can't come in early because I'm out of town. These technologies don't really succeed at bringing us together. At my work even today I stood and completed a sale with someone who couldn't show me the decentcy of getting off their phone, and I assisted someone else to select a camera while they were talking on the phone, only to later have them rush me because they were "on lunch." I don't enjoy this diplomatic process of helping people who would rather phone chat.

Technology and learning styles

I have in my education experience received instruction in various mediums. I have taken online classes, and hybrid classes I have had course materials and notes held online as well. Additionally, I have watched videos and presentations, slide shows, power point presentations and amateur projector art. I even went to an even in the Schnitzer concert hall where the speaker was using a projector and hand drawing and writing the "slides".

I have noticed a couple of things about the effectiveness of certain technologies. Firstly, the more basic and simple the technology the more likely it is to work famously. I have had instructors have issue with the projectors that interface with computers on a monthly basis. Only, once has the very simple projector that requires translucent copies ever failed an instructor. Though never have I seen a chalk board "fail to work" for one reason or another. I always prefer a visual medium in addition to a verbal one. I find that many students who do well are geared or inclined toward learning through auditory input, but I don't find that to be one of my personal strengths.

Lately I've been thinking...

Lately I've been thinking...

(Pun intended) That I have a rather strange way of working one that is rather generally frowned upon in the work place, and the school system. I really need to mend my bad ways and re-form I am almost hoplessly procrastanatory, but there is some hope for me and all of us crazy loons who can help but be behind the clock. I have also found out recently that I work well under pressure and can acomplish quite a lot in little time if I set my mind to it. The real difficulty I have is two fold, finding a stressor to initiate my sense of urgency and gaining the momentum to roll through the messy task of work. I suppose there is also an element of self-doubt that I need to combat as well but that is seeminly a nonissue when I am faced with a self- imposed impossible time constraint. Anyone share my problem or have some constructive ideas of how to turn me into a "pre-crastonator"?
